Origins of JCCA-International and Going forward
The name Joint Christian Choir Association (JCCA) speaks for itself. In the early 1960’s many of the indigenous Bassa Christians who believed that the differences in minor doctrinal interpretations should not divide the Christians, decided to have Bible studies conducted on Saturday and Sunday evenings independently from their various church denominations. Many of these individuals were choir members, ministers of the gospel, musicians and ordinary church members. The usual routine of singing and praying before Bible study continued. As the group grew larger, the idea of finding an independent choir orgaChrist” (Romans 15:6) The leaders of these groups decided to meet so that a larger organization could be established. In Sinkor, Monrovia, the Bible study group was known as the Sinkor Union Choir, in Dolo Town, Harbel-Firestone, the group was known as the Firestone Rally Union Choir and in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County it was known as Buchanan Union Choir. Each group had its own leaders. These independent choir organizations had the same goal: to glorify God in songs and music, “that ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the father of our Lord Jesus Benjamin K. the early 1990s former members of JCCA from Liberia and some interested
Christians in the US decided to organize the organization here in the
United States.
In March 1994 JCCA-USA was established in Staten Island, New York. The interim president leadership was led by Sister Grace G. Gbayu as president and until elections was held in 1995 when Rev. Philip Saywrane was elected as its first president, and Brother Onesimus G.S. Gayemen was officially declared the founder of JCCA-USA. |
